Zion, Paradise Forks climbing, etc

Original Post

Hey, I will be moving down to Tempe, AZ for work sometime in April. Are there any people out there (Phoenix, Tucson, Flagstaff) who are interested in making trips to Zion? I also plan obviously to climb closer to Tempe (Isolation Canyon, Paradise Forks etc). Sport or trad, whatever, up to 5.12.

What's your schedule?

I'm pretty sure it's raining in Zion, which means no climbing for a while. Is Pforks accessible this winter?

Cochise is nearer.

Are you in the area? I won't be there till April, possibly even a littler later. I will be free on weekends.

Oh, no thanks. Too hot

Hey Josh, what is your post supposed to mean?

Peter:

I think what Josh meant is that Ball responded to your post apparently without reading it. :-)

You shouldn't have any trouble finding partners once you get to town. It'll be getting a bit toasty come April, but the northern areas should be nice about then.

As far as I understand, people climb in northern Arizona during the summer, right?

It's more about altitude than latitude. Mt Lemmon is best in the summer.

Yes, you are correct-awesome climbing in N. Arizona in the summer. I'll climb with ya - I'm in PHX. Drop me an email when the time is near...

Zion climbing is a no go only within 24-48 hours of rain depending on the aspect and nature of the route (wait a little longer for fragile face climbs).

Also, from april until late october, climbing in the sun is pretty hot. Shady climbs are a better bet during then. There are some peregrine falcon closures until mid summer, so be aware of those.

One more protip: bring a #5. You'll be happy you did.

Peter,
I live in Santa Fe. Would be interested in going to Zion in April. Unlike the climbing you'll find in PHX/Tuscon (soild granite and quality trad routes) zion is mostly aid or alpine. If you're up for hard work there are a few aid lines (FA's) I've had my eyes on for a while. There's also some long alipne routes that I'd really like to do. I'm getting a bit old for sport though.

Dan, since I will be starting a new job in Tempe, I will most probably have only sat and sun off for now. Do you think this may work for going to Zion?

Peter, I live in Prescott and am always interested in new partners. Anything from Paradise Forks cragging to Zion big walls. Feel free to send me a PM.

I climb all the time. I'm in PHX. Send me an email if you want to get out, sport/trad/boulders. I have gear.

Hey Peter, I'm a Tempe local, and love to climb "close" to town this spring and summer - The Waterfall, East Clear Creek, West Clear Creek, Iso, etc. Anywhere you'd like to go though, you can find partners, especially here in Az. We're not as bad as the forums make us out to be... or maybe we are :)

hey, thanks for the replies. I will be heading down to AZ in the end of March. By the way, does anybody know anyone who needs a roommate? I will be working at ASU, and would prefer to live close to campus for easy commute.
