Worlds largest rope swing?

The number of bolts they added shows they didn't know what they were doing. Even though there is some free fall at the beginning of the swing, the loads are pretty small. If I recall, there were five bolts included in their anchor.

Hell yeahhhh! Love it! Back in the good ole days this was 100% cool. I still cant let climbing and the stuff that goes with it get sucked in by the masses and the "access freaks"

Corona Arch is not on BLM land. It is owned by the State of Utah. It is a School lands trust parcel, the same as the piece of property at the base of Castleton Tower that was purchased by the Accessfund.
They do not give a shit about what happens there and no permit is needed. I have been contacted several times this season to rig the thing for TV shows. I have politely told each to toss off.
Chuck James is at the helm of "safety Nuts", great. None of the staff are certified anything.

S Denny you sir are also an idiot. If you call no climbing management plan and a total clampdown "working fine"
Currently there is a total ban on any new fixed protection, the revocation of Desert Highlights permits to guide canyoneering in the park and a moratorium on any new commercial climbing or guiding permits. Recreational climbing contiues unfettered however the options for the new climbing managment plan include permitting and possible daily limitations on RECREATIONAL climbers at numbers as few as 12 per day.

shut down for commercial use already, the 200$ a jump gravy train is over

pretty sure that article says that commercial use was shut down. no more permits granted to businesses to do it because it would put some liability on the state. Didn't read anything about private parties not being allowed to go do it...taking their lives into their own hands.

Now the Moab region is so incredibly popular that it has become increasingly more important for us to tread lightly. The more attention we get...the more rules they make. Thats not a good thing for us as climbers and outdoor enthusiasts. I fear it wont be long before the days of freedom on BLM land is gone or severely restricted.
Let's go back to the disease, and not waste any more time focusing on the symptoms. Comes down to TOO MANY PEOPLE. Not to steer the discussion towards socialized medicine, but free vasectomies for every motherfucker who wanted one would go a long way in contributing to the solution of not only access issues but also the next 50 biggest problems in the world today. Oh yeah, free birth control pills too.

Probably for the best. That was a lawsuit waiting to happen. If a client got injured, any newly graduated plaintiff attorney could win a settlement. The defense would get destroyed for a number of reasons.

Out of curiosity, is this the arch that's just off Wall Street (maybe a 20min walk from the last campground there)? If so, wow, that's a beautiful area. Not sure I'd want it infested with screaming people anyway.

But damn that's a huge swing. I didn't even think one could climb it when I was there, let alone swing off it.

Anyone see the human slingshot that they have at the end of that video, too? WTF?

yea, thats the one right off of wallstreet and a short hike from the campground. There is some easy stuff to climb to the top a bit past the arch itself, more of a scramble than a hike with bolts you could clip into if you felt the need.

This has just been closed to commercial guides. This is not BLM land but state land (SITLA).

On Jan. 17, the School and Institutional Trust Lands Administration (SITLA) informed an outfitter that it could no longer take paying clients to the arch, which remains open to private parties interested in climbing, rappelling and even swinging.

Says specifically that it's still open for private parties. So the people using this argument as a victory for their views that it's a stupid thing to do, are stupid.

I understand the access issues that people are having with this, but who the hell cares if these guys are having fun. They don't look like douches, they look like some guys and girls having a good time. Doesn't everybody have dance parties in the middle of the wilderness, or am I alone on that one? Because it's really pretty fun. The people who have a problem with the care free, life is good attitude of these guys probably hate kittens too.

I'm about as anti-kitten as they come, so why the hell not.

When I was there, there was no one climbing, no one jumping, and there was no noise beyond the gentle wind flowing through that canyon. It was pretty sweet, and a nice reprieve from noise on Wall St.

But hey, that's just me. I'm a crotchety old man who wants everyone to shut the fuck up.

What's the difference between swinging on a rope and rappeling on a rope (legally speaking)? Very little. What do you do when you are done climbing?

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
