Heading out to the stronghold in a day or two and haven't been there in 12 years. What are the best recomendations for a free place to park our van and walk to all of the climbing? Where is the best place in town to fill up water? And any local gear stores selling the guide book? When we were there last there was no book and though it made it a great adventure I bet we will be able to do more pitches and less exploring with the book.
As for beta, I'd check out the relevant chapter of Kerry's book (online here ) and check out Geir's site for some good topos. I'm pretty sure there isn't a current published book (but if there is, I'd like to know about it at well).
Free camping all over the West Stronghold, and if you have a high-clearance vehicle you can camp for free on the East side as well.
Water is available in Benson (and probably outside nearly any grocery store in the area) at the "reverse-osmosis" water-vending machines.

There is no single place to park your vehicle and walk to all of the climbing. Parking is area-dependent and usually not difficult to discern once you arrive wherever you want to be for the day (and it's all free).
The book is out of print and the closest gear stores are in Tucson, I believe. I would go with nick's suggestions.
Correction to Nick's post: most of the East-side free camping is very accessible with a low-clearance vehicle.
In my opinion the best place to "park" where you have access to lots of climbing and never have to drive anywhere is the end of FR 687 on the West side. In addition to Whale, Westworld, etc., you can easily get up to the Rockfellows/ What's My Line area. Not much single pitch sport in that area, though, if you're looking for that. The road is a bit rough getting in there, too.
