Dark Knight Rises SPOILER ALERT: How does Bruce Wayne NOT break his back after taking a factor 1 fall???

Just watched the Dark Knight Rises. Clearly, the most unbelievable, physics defying/important scene to deconstruct in the movie is how Bruce Wayne, after dislocating a vertebrae in an earlier fight with Bane, manage to not re-injure his back when he takes a 20ft factor 1.1 fall on a hemp rope tied around his body with some sort of bowline knot?

Haha I guess the answer is that it's from Hollywood :)

I suppose its the same way that they can blow up the middle of a bridge and both side remain intact. WTF!? Even more out of touch with reality than the roped fall.

Was it a suspension bridge?

he has that cool belt with all the gizmos, yet Alfred can't outfit him with a decent climbing harness ? how sad...

Wasn't he top roping though? Could have tied in and climbed the other side of the rope.

At least he didn't have one of those 'Cliffhanger' BD harnesses that break all the time in movies, or Batman would have died.

Would you settle for a set of Chinese finger-cuffs?

Observations:
1) Why no leg-loops?
2) Clearly someone at some point placed a piton on lead. Why not bring a second piton and place it high above the ledge right before the jump, so if you miss the dyno you take a top-rope fall (or a short lead fall) as opposed to a massive pendulum factor 1.
3) Dynamic belay anyone?
4) Why is he jumping for a ledge rather than just using all the cobblestone jugs to climb to it?

Plenty of good static moves to the ledge...

It is a movie, they are not climbers. That segment was probably shot in a studio on a green screen.

I'm pretty good on a green screen.

Funny I just watched that the other day and thought the same thing! But it's A) Hollywood and B) HE'S THE BATMAN!

Obviously because the bowline absorbed all the shock. That's why everyone should use the bowline.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
