Shoe Rubber Oxidation

I was having this conversation a few years ago and just thought about it again. This guy was talking about how he keeps his shoes in plstic bads so the rubber doesn't oxidize over time. Does anyone else do this?

I just scored 2 new pairs of shoes and I have 10+ pairs, some of which get used about once a year. Just wondering if it worth all of the effort or if this guy was full of bs...
