Enchanted Rock: Are Cams needed?

Greetings Mountaineers,

My wife and I are planning a trip to Enchanted Rock in December. I've read cams are needed for many of the routes. I don't own cams, but I do have many quick draws, nuts and, larger hexes.

We are not looking at any big 5.10's or serious leads. Just looking for some solid sport routes to set up top rope in the 5.6-5.9 range.

Do we need to buy cams? What do you think?

If you are just looking for topropes, you could probably get by with what you have. Most of the "sport routes" there have bolted anchors anyway.

Thanks for the reply!

Looking forward to our trip!

You'll be fine with the gear you have. The bolted routes are usually steep slabs. Make sure your rope is long enough for some of them.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
