there's some so-so limestone cliffs in NE Iowa, but shit, Horseshoe Canyon Ranch is only 7 hrs from des moines. Easy weekend!

There's lots of quality limestone on the eastern side of the state. That being said, it hasn't seen much development in the way of bouldering. So if you're into exploring and seeking out new lines you should check out some of the state and county parks. There are a couple, such as Whitewater Canyon, where climbing of any kind is not allowed so look into the rules and regulations before you hit the trail. Good luck!

Sweet. I am just looking for some areas to explore that do not have much development.

Pictured Rocks has lots of short, steep rock just off the parking area that isn't tall enough to warrant bolts.

the backside of the des moines art center has a good traverse circuit - they didn't appear to mind...

Is pictured rocks worth the two hour drive to boulder for a day?

It's the most easily accessible crag so it's probably a good place to start. Where are you driving in from? There might be places closer to you...

driving from central IL looking to explore a little

Pictured rocks is 3.5hrs from des Moines and I've driven it plenty of times fora day. You might want to bring a rope though... Not sure about the quality of bouldering - unless you're into high balls

Is there any other parks with potential?
