CT climbing - best time of year?

Hey everyone,

I have a bunch of family in Connecticut and want to go back and visit soon. Just wondering when the best seasons are for climbing. Would winter be too cold, provided no storms have come through recently? Summer too hot? I'd imagine the shoulder season to be best from my time in CT, but those times also weren't through the eyes of me during my climbing life. Don't want to lug the shoes, rack and rope if no climbing will go on.

The fall is the best time to climb anywhere in New England. Are you going to be in CT for Thanksgiving per chance?

there are a few south facing walls that are toasty warm on sunny winter days

Marc, unfortunately I won't be. I get to visit my Dad in Las Vegas - that means some Red Rock climbing will happen at least.

East Peak which is some of the best climbing on sunny witner days, also has some of the best climbs in the state.

Bear in mind that the town locks the gate on Park Drive (the access road to the top) at 4:15 PM sharp. It is sometimes locked all day during the winter. You may be better off parking in Hubbard Park and hiking the footbridge over I-691.

Please be discreet about climbing there.

the MP page is also missing a large number of climbs.. definitely worth it to grab the connecticut rock climbing guide book.

please don't copy route info out of Fasulo's book... how about taking a stab at adding them yourselves? If you know of a climb that's missing, add it. It only take a minute or two. . . if you have any q's about the process feel free to ask!

Late fall/winter may be the best time to climb in CT. I second East Peak, some good climbing.
Bear in mind that while there are many good 5.9/ 10, protection may be only OK and sometimes poor. Bring a long bit of rope for TR's

u mean mostly poor, and sometimes ok? lol

edit: any S/SW facing traprock wall up in the sun and protected from the wind will be a great location on a mild winter day. Mid to late fall is the best temps humidity for routes. Winter is best for bouldering.

Now... it's just a TR like many other classics at that wall that had fixed gear.
