Steve Louthan RIP
The Daily Camera is reporting a hiker-related fatality in Eldo. Article |
This is confusing.. I was up at seal rock in the flatirons this morning. |
The Camera is wrong, I was there. It was a fall from the top of the Bastille and the person was wearing tennis shoes not climbing shoes, and no climbing gear. I won't speculate on if the fall was an accident or intentional, but it was not someone climbing. The deceased was an approximately 45 year old male who was alone. |

I was up in Eldo yesterday and saw some fire trucks, etc on the descent from Ruper around that time. They were there for a while and by the time I got back down to the road police and ambulances were there as well. There was a light at the top of the bastille. Didn't see much. Inquired and got a vague "not serious, still under investigation" answer so didn't pry. Understandable response. |

Disregard anything about Seal Rock. Not close. Flatirons 101 class may be needed here. |

As it turns out the guy was a pretty serious climber. Family has recently started to sell off some of his items. I picked up some of his worn out old guide books...lotsa notes. sad. sad. sad. |
very sad to hear thoughts to all involved |
Did anyone know Stephen Louthan? |
A bunch of us who went to school with Steve just learned about this. He was a climber and good guy. We're working on putting together some kind of memorial - and would love to hear from any of his friends in CO or DC. |
I'm sorry for your loss, Josh. |
If you could change the title to "Steve Louthan, RIP" that would be nice. Thanks. |
