I am a total record junkie, but when I go out climbing/camping, I want to hear the sound of the wind through the pine trees, not some a$$holes shitty music. When someone has music at the crag, its all I can do to not go smash their iPod with a rock. Ryan Williams wrote: Nowadays, with the exception of a few great artists, it feels as if they are making one song at a time instead of one album at a time. I hate that. For the most part, I agree with you there. However, this: Ryan Williams wrote: Biggie, Nas, A Tribe Called Quest - those guys knew how to make a RECORD. The rappers today just want to make videos and singles - maybe because my generation's attention span is so short compared to your generation.is simply not true. Go check out Damu the Fudgemunk and listen to a few tracks off of a couple different albums here: redefinitionrecords.com/col… or here: amazon.com/How-It-Should-So… And what about Atmosphere? You know Slug et al. put together full length goodness. Or go check out these folks: - Project Move - Moe Pope and Headnodic - Y Society - Mr. Lif - Kno - MF Doom - Raashan Ahmad ...and what about other genres? If you have never seen a dude play a hammond organ where he is playing the bass line with one hand on the upper key set, playing rhythm and soloing with the right hand on the lower key set, and all the while working the wah pedal with his feet, then you need to check out the Black Diamond Heavies: youtube.com/watch?v=9mKYBDd… Or how about the Dirtbombs, The Oblivians, Mr. Airplane Man....the list goes on. Good full length albums are out there, you just gotta find them. |

Peter Stokes wrote: Guess I'm old fashioned but that's what I like as well, though an old guitar getting handed around is sometimes nice... my favorite was the time in Arches when a friend brought along his shakohachi flute and someone from south America in the next campsite joined us with a nylon string guitarYeah, I dig that. Usually when the guitar gets passed to me I chuck into the woods. It's even better if a stick goes through the back end and makes that off-tune twang sound as it hits the strings. Sucks when the wind blows and it sounds like an out-of-tune violin, though. |

NickCO has XM satellite radio. Which is rad in Indian Creek. Not so much for the campfire, but more for the crag drive. AC/DC on the way to Way Rambo is bad ass. |

Am into a few of them already - been listening to MF Doom for a long time. Really enjoyed his stuff w/ Dangermouse (and anything that either of them collaborate on). I know there is great music out there - sometimes it takes a place like this to find it! Best music I know is stuff that I hear from friends or acquaintances. |
