I've had plenty of dogs, but the one name that always made people smile was "Isotope"

Named him after the baseball team on the Simpsons, and I really love chemistry.

My last dog's name was Genius. He once launched himself off a 10 foot deck to go after a squirrel. Did the whole Wile E. Coyote thing in the air before he crashed down. He was ok, just a little road rash on his chin and belly. Yeah. Genius. He earned that name almost every day. I loved that dog. Point of the story being.... The name should fit the dog's personality.

I had a dog named Rusty. Original, I know.
BUT he was as dumb as a rock and always smashed into everything, so I never called him Rusty. His name was "thud"

I once named the kitty runt of the litter "Einstein" b/c he would fall over himself while chasing his brothers and sisters around trying to play with them. Fit perfectly throughout his life. Not to mention a step above your Genius name. ;)

Should have some significance to the owner(s) - something to do with their life style. 4. Should describe a characteristic - physical or behavioral - of the dog. the dog I had for 13 years - best dog in the world - was named "Flash" - as an extra part to #3 my wife is a pretty serious photographer.
that can be taken so many different ways.

I once met a guy that named his dog Matt. I found it weird and for some reason a little creepy. In otherwords avoid names typically reserved for our species.

Two of my favorite dog names: Sketchy, Baby J. The latter dog was found on Christmas.

We always named our male retrievers after North American wildlife:
Badger, Bear, Otter, Buck, Raven . . .

This worked out pretty well until I had to try to explain to my (then) ten-year-old daughter why Beaver might not be a good name for a dog. Recycled the name Badger for another go-around.

Had two female Labs named Lily and Pad. Funny thing was, we got Pad pre-named at three--already had Lily.

Buck. Rhymes with . . .

My Chocolate Lab's name is Alpine... When she was young it caused a lot of blank stares and laughing when I would scream ALPINE GET BACK HERE... Love that dog. She loves the outside as much as I do.

"Chickenhead"? Ugh, sorry.

Someone said let the name come by itself. I like that and have done it for all the animals I've lived with. Even some of the people.

Oh yeah, and "buck" rhymes with "truck". Duh.
