Eldo - Genesis - Fixed Rope

think i saw the eldo rope bandits early this morning while I was walking into the park for some fly fishing. It was raining and they were leaving eldo early (7:30ish) carrying a rope bag and not much else.

Agree with Tony B's last point. The person whose rope was fixed has stated that he recognizes the issue and has learned a lesson.

It seems that a little forgiveness is in order. Everyone has made their point, have they not?

The thread worked, get it?

(Now EDJ deserves his rope back, assuming it was confiscated to make a point rather than stolen)

EDJ is a great dude. If you don't want to fess up directly, contact me. I'll keep it anonymous and get him his rope and any gear back. The irony is that overall, EDJ is an absolute asset to Eldo Park (and town) and did not mean to offend.

Exactly why we must be outstanding stewards.

People forget that these issues would not exist if ropes and draws didn't get left behind. But people focus on the effect not the cause.

I'm all for LNT and our Access being maintained while being equally against gear theft.

EDJ and others take your ropes down everyday while you are establishing new lines no matter the time, energy, and hassle.

Whoever stole his rope give it back.

Ya know, everybody has an Everest, some are just smaller. Ethics & BS aside, it's still "litter".

This much energy? Typing on a keyboard requires very little energy, what you propose requires lots of energy. Giving the dude his rope back will not require much, just enough to push the buttons on your phone and tell him where it is. Give the dude his rope back.

Wow! what a thread. I wonder how many routes I've climbed where the first ascentionist used fixed gear to establish the route. It sure is nice enjoying all the routes I've climbed where others put in a lot of hard work to establish. Now that I look back at it, it sure was awfully convenient all those years of climbing on other peoples hard work. Eldorado sure is a nice place and I've climbed there for a lot of years. It's not a place I like to see fixed lines hanging around, but new routes sure are a lot of fun. Hmmm I guess I'll keep my mouth shout.

....give the guy his rope back

It's just a place on the map man...it didn't do anything to you. Anyways...besides the ethical debate on this rope, hung draws, stashed bags etc...stealing is LAMESAUCE. Hopefully someone will return it to you.
I love you, Scott, and all of my beloved children of Boulder! Except the hippies! Just kidding... kinda.

I remember another stolen rope thread. Bob D. you are missed. So are those boys from Laramie that made him leave. Can we find that thread and resurrect it? I think it was a much better fixed rope thread. Where's all the threats and removal of the rope owner's content from MP? - Ah, those were the days!

Hi EDJ!

Have you had enough of this impolite and unpleasant treatment after sharing such an irksome and unsettling experience? I bet you have! Do you wish there was a mature rock climbing forum that understood the passion and stoke of climbers like yourself?

Well there is! Feel free to post this in our General Discussions Forum over on Supertopo and you will surely receive a friendly and sympathetic reception as well as in depth conversion over your concerns on how people should behave regarding your swole projects.

Also, I would like to take this opportunity to formally invite you (as well as all of the lurkers and non-lurkers alike) to come join our fun-loving but responsible bunch of climbing aficionados who know the benefits of what good moderation brings to an on-line community.

I think most all of you will find that our seasoned moderators "keep the bar high" by maintaining a sense of order and decorum, while encouraging quality discussion about our favorite pastime. It may take a small amount of getting used to, as we do have reasonable standards as far as language and image posting that are strictly enforced. The registration is easy and painless, and the rules will be explained in detail during the process.

I will warn you however up front that registering an ALIAS is "VERBOTEN", and something we have zero-tolerance with. So if you are tired of the juvenile behavior at Mountain Project and yearn for a climbing forum that matches your maturity level, all I can say is: "Come join the fun"! :)

I think the difference between MP and SuperTopo is like the difference between 4chan and reddit...and we both know which one is cooler and more fun

Caution,SuperTopo can be a very tough room! Those people don't even like each other very much really.

It is a delicious irony when a poster from the other site comes over to this one to spray about how bad it is because people spray here.
I suppose it serves to keep the other site clean?

Well at least SupertopoMan isn't selling $5,000 pitons!!

MP's for sale gear may be damaged, but at least our prices are reasonable!

Huh. Another form letter hailing from Greg at... wherever. My guess? Some servile cubicle dweller practicing his mainstay of drafting permutations of form letters as a profession. Proud work, sir, I'll section you off 15'.

Greg@Supertopo is just a troll causing trouble. He's been making the same comments about MP on Supertopo threads

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
