I'm moving to Fresno for a month.

1) Anybody need a climbing partner?

2) Any good way to get to the Valley other than hitchhiking? I looked but couldn't find info on a shuttle.

3) Is it tough to get around without a vehicle? (anybody willing to loan me a bike for a month?) Is FAX pretty decent for transit?

1) Welcome, I'm booked up. Training for a marathon has my schedule full. However Metalmark is a pretty good gym. Take a look. touchstoneclimbing.com/meta…

2) Public transit to the valley from Fresno is not possible. I think Amtrak to Merced then YARTS, but you're better off hitchhiking.

3) Yes. This is the worst city for public transit short of no transit at all. FAX works but city is so sprawled out that it takes forever to go anywhere.

Dude, you really need a car. No point in being in Fresno if you can't enjoy all that nice climbing around it.

Just go on Craigslist , finder a beater Accord or Corolla , buy it , and sell it when you leave . People been doing that for ages ... good luck .

Being in Fresno without a car is one of the worst things that I can imagine. Metalmark is a good gym and you might be able to find people to get out with. Careful, though, as there are a lot of punters here. The FAX bus is pretty bad...extremely slow, infrequent, and full of crazies. I use it to go to the airport sometimes, and that's about it. If you're planning on being really busy while you're here, maybe having no car is OK. But if you have some time off and want to do anything interesting, you're going to need a car. Or make friends with people who have cars pretty quick.

Well, I just found out I have a 12 mile daily commute to the hospital. This could get interesting - especially on the first day.

Anyone willing to loan an old beater bicycle to a visiting student?

Dude, when are you rotating at the hospital? I live 2 blocks from the hospital and have an extra room. I'll be out of town a lot and have a cat that needs fed. It may work out better for you than biking 12 miles a day through south Fresno.

This is probably the best thing to do when moving to Fresno.

Despite living just 2 hours from the valley floor? No way.

Besides, I grew up in Atlanta. Fresno is way more bicycle friendly.

Hey. I live up near Yosemite in Fish Camp. Currently have weekends open and looking to climb as much as possible. Prefer multi pitch 5.8 to 5.9. Also from NC and GA.

Cool - I'd come climbing with you, but I actually am working every weekend. My free time is during the week.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
