Geographically Undesirable ?

I used to live back east, I love to climb and was married to what I thought was "The One" who liked it as well, just not as much as I did. We always expressed an interest to move out west.
I took initiative and got a dream job with Black Diamand as a product manager for cams. The issue was that once the reality set in, the woman who I thought was "The One" gave me an ultimatum, it was either her or the dream job. She decided she didn't want to move. I didn't take the job and stayed with my wife. It was the beginning of the end.

Long story short. I am now divorced and don't have my dream job. I did move to Colorado after the divorce but my point is, follow your heart and your gut. If the woman is truly the one, she will understand and work with you to achieve your goals as well.

I will always regret not taking the job because of a woman and it eats me up to this day.

Living with regret sucks, don't do it. Follow your heart and things will work out how they were supposed to.

Funny thing about Boulder. I meet the "one" three times a day. And odds are, she climbs harder than I do.

Since you mentioned raising a family, I wonder if you've talked to her about who would put their career on hold or at least the slower track.

I'm probably jaded, but I don't think any woman is worth giving up your happiness for.

It comes down to one question:

Is she worth living in Louisiana for the next 50 years?

Stay in LA. There are already too many "climbers" in CO.

Move. You will find another "one."

You've got three competing interests here. Your lifestyle, her job, and your relationship. Assuming she really couldn't work in CO, (is she a Louisiana state legislator or something?) then at best you can have two of the three. You need to decide as a couple which of the three you're willing to do without at the moment. If you're not at the point where you make decisions as a couple - and it seems perhaps you're not, since you're approaching it as an either/or question and you came to an internet forum to ask it - then maybe that's your answer.

None of us knows the details about your relationship, her job, or your priorities. Sit down with your lady and figure it out.

Are you one of those assholes with a "native" sticker?

You can always find a new girlfriend but you cannot find new climbing if there is no new climbing to be found.

Also, just remember, no one has ever been on their deathbed and wished they worked more, but billions have wish they worked less. Some things are more important than a job.

Stay out east, 5.10 is still chuffin. With only 7 billion people on the planet you may not get another chance at love.

hell no. Just claustrophobic.

Seriously though; it all boils down to: who/what do you love more? Climbing real rocks or this woman...

Honestly, if this woman doesn't support and encourage something you really love and identify with, like climbing, then why should you support and encourage what she clearly identifies with: her career?

I agree with you..

If you feel claustrophobic maybe you should be the one that moves?

I don't mean to jump on you, it's just since moving here I've found about 3 people that were born here that actually take advantage of some of what colorado has to offer. Most natives I have met sit around and drink beer and watch TV.

Why should I move? I'm not one of those people. Maybe we should lobby that all CO residents that don't utilize CO resources (i.e. mountains) must be relocated by 2020? Anyways, I was just joking with Brake-Hand.

I think he should follow his heart. All women and MPers aside.

I meant if you felt it was overcrowded.. no worries I'm just busting balls. That sounds like a great idea. About half of the people I work with are natives and the most athletic of any of them is a fly-fisherman.

Fishy fishy fishy

Just get married and have lots of kids and pick up a new sport..... Like playing tuba......and going shrimping.
Accept the fact that climbing is over.......

Kids only stop you temporarily. Once mine were old enough to fit in a harness we we're out more often than before. Now they're teens and drag there fat dad up the rock. As far as location? Maybe Co isn't the only option. There are other places that she may be able to work that have the lifestyle you're after. Maybe California. Aside from Gator wrestling I can't imagine a job in La that you can't get in California (just assuming because I don't know what she does) of course I'd trade California for Colorado so I see the dilemma.

Measure love by what you give up, not what you give.

Oh and BTW, what's wrong with LA? I like it here.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
