Forum functionality questions related to new posts

Couple thing I've noticed in my time around here:

1) There's no way to hop directly to the first new post in a thread. Not a big deal, obv, but it's super convenient and I'd enjoy using such a feature.

2) When/how posts get marked as read seems pretty arbitrary. I'll often visit in the morning and read some stuff, then return in the afternoon and threads I visited are still marked as having new posts when I can tell it ain't so based on the time of the last post. Then, sometimes while I'm browsing around, everything gets marked as read all at once even though I haven't viewed many of the new posts/threads. So I assume the new/marked as read thing is based on time on the site or something? Any thought to connecting it to actual viewing of individual threads?

Just thinking out loud. Thanks!

When the thread is more than one page, you can go to the latest new post by clicking on the page icon on the "Recent Forum Posts" page.

Interesting. I never use that page because there are many subforums I'm not interested in reading. Easier to browse just the forums I want to read. I'd love to see that icon/link on all threads of any length. Because I'm lazy.
Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
