"drink alot so you can get high" said my climbing coach to two 11 year olds. (talking about water at a climbing comp.)

Maybe this should be in the "dumb things" thread.

While soloing a 5.5 route...

Him: "This thing's got some moves on it."
Me: "Yeah, wish I had some pro."
Him: "Don't fall on me."
Me: "No shit."

It's not cheating…if you can hit it on the way down, you can use it on the way up.

Before every lead my partner says to me "have fun, be safe, don't die."

up at vedauwoo, my partner was lowering off of BG crack and swung back over into the crack to grab the gear. the ropes pinched and he was stuck, dangling in space.

scarpelli walks by, and in a big booming voice says " YOU'RE F***ED, SOOOOO FFFF**********ED!!!!"

"Don't play the numbers game." This is similar to something posted above, and something I struggled with a bit when I started climbing.

"Girls climb better then boys, 'cuz they use their feet well!"

"Don't climb with people for whom causalities are acceptable."
(In the interests of political correctness I will not mention the groups referred to!)

"33's a great age to start climbing, that's when all the top mountaineers started making their biggest climbs."

First thing I ever learned about climbing when I was 12:
"you need not a knot if the knot is not a neat knot. If it is not a neat knot, it need not be knotted"

"Movement over mind" or "mind over movement." Depending on the situation.

"Risk versus reward." Was said referring to a dog that ate Mr. Jack Tackles steak. But could apply elsewhere.

"blah blah blah blah" (fill is the blah's, because I was so pissed I couldn't understand why she was even talking) belayer "belaying" yet so wrapped in conversation with someone next to them that there is no possible way they are even paying attention to you on lead!

Along those same lines. "You can't cure crazy."

"Learn how to down climb." Can come in handy if you're off route.
Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
