Lanterns and head lamps work well enough, but the darkness comes early during the New England fall and those of us who have 9-5s are used to projecting and sending in the dark. It puts out 2700 lumens which (compared to the 300-500 from a gas lantern) pretty much feels like parking a car underneath the boulder. It seems pricey, but if you already own dewalt drills then you don't need to buy any battery packs.
Def do a ton of night time post work bouldering here in CT and this is our go to lantern: coleman Deluxe Perfect Flow
One will totally change your persepctive on night bouldering. Get two of them and you will think it's daytime. They fit in your pad easily and are quite durable actually.
The Dewalt sounds interesting though user comments says it may not work in the cold and some reported 40min burn time before it was dead. The Coleman lasts for many many hours and an extra propane tank is easy (and cheap) to bring just in case.
