Anyone else notice that there are a few death blocks at the top of this rap? What does it take to get the parks department to send these things south?

Every time I do this rap, I just prey they don't fall. If you are on it, please don't step on these things. Also, it seems like it'd be a good idea to put some bolts in at the second rap and save the tree.

Just sayin. I'm glad to have survived it once again.

Oh, and I rapped it with a 70 meter yesterday, and it seems like It comes up a tad short getting to the red ledge. Luckily there's a tree there, but is this thing rap-able with a 60m?

cheers.

i stopped doing that nasty rappel route years ago. as a MUCH BETTER alternative, try the chockstone/vertigo raps. it involves a tiny bit of scrambling, but lets you hit the ground near your pack with 3 single rope raps. i think the beta for this descent is listed under yellow spur.
nice clean free hanging raps with no death blocks & no stuck ropes. also, i have never encountered anyone climbing the routes over which i was rapping. i find this much faster than the dirty deed and way less drama.

You can use a 60m for the Dirty Deeds rap.

It's been a while since I have done that rap. I think I've done it a grand total of three times.

They do clean loose rock in the park. I recall some notice from Mike that a trundling day was happening a while back.

do the vertigo raps

I used the DD raps just recently and thought it seemed OK to me, but then again, if someone was above my party, I'd be worried.
Yeah, you can do the CC to Vertigo system too, but if you have someone who is tentative scrambling, I'm not sure it is any "easier."
Mike McHugh does have a trundle day coming up. I'll forward this link to him and see what he thinks.

I've done the raps around 6 times in the last 2 years. I did the raps a few weeks ago and didn't notice anything I would call a death block. In my opinion trundling should be done only where absolutely necessary.

A 60m requires about 10 ft of 5.4 downclimbing on one of the raps.

Did the blocks ever get trundled off of this piece?

Did the raps last Saturday. Few small rocks followed my rope. No death rocks. There was a line for the vertigo raps. A party next to me was quite upset that we were using the raps, their proximity to rewritten, Zot are a bit of a concern. Should these raps be eliminated?

The raps are fine. The raps don't cause me distress. But you can't fix or filter stupid. The people above you might be. Never know. Same goes for anywhere.
If you eliminate the raps the first person looking to use them will refurbish them anyway. Self included.

Yes, several blocks were trundled off this rap route, as well as a couple neighboring climbs during the wee hours of the morning one day back in May.

Good, leave'm.

Red ledge has a TV size block sitting at the end right near the start of Swanson's.

Just stitting there. Gonna be ugly when it goes.

Oh and the rope pulling friction to get off the summit is HORRIBLE!!

what friction? What climb did you do?

Topping out on Swanson's, so I guess technically that summit rap isn't exactly DD's.
