Calling all Teton gurus! I'll be in the Jackson area briefly this coming week, trying to climb the Grand with a few friends. It'll be my second time, but the first time was a lightning strike from Denver, spending both nights sleeping in the car in a parking lot. This won't fly with a larger group.
My question is this: Is there good camping around the Jackson area? Or some cheap lodging that any recommends? The plan is to drive as close to jackson as possible this sunday, camp somewhere, climb mon/tue (weather permitting), stay in jackson tuesday, then on to either tensleep or devil's tower. Any good beta or stories from the crusty teton veterans among us?
I'm assuming you're coming from CO... lots of free camping on FS land as you come through the Hoback Canyon, only a half hour or less south of the town of Jackson. No need to bust Park regs or worry about where you can throw down in the valley itself. FYI, it's as busy as it gets right now and will stay that way till Labor Day or the first snow, whichever comes first.
