Yeah, maybe there is some good rock out there, but WTF is with the residents of Boulder? Dudes show up at the crags like they own them, drop ropes on people trying to lead from the ground up. Sneak around trying to cut in line to get on routes. If you needed to climb so damn bad, why didn't you go somewhere that isn't a zoo. And why do people go out do deal with this zoo when there is so much better rock within pissing distance of that canyon?! That said. I even know it's a zoo, hence why I never climb there. So why do you folks think it isn't going to be a zoo? It's like park meadows mall up in that canyon!T0 Try again. GO |

I grew up in Boulder and used to climb in BoCan a lot. |

I find people to be a lot more friendly when I visit other areas.I think that's what you get when you have a larger "city" type area with a huge amount of climbers in it. Bocan is used by people from the entire Denver Metro area, plus climbers from other spots. You put that many people in an area and there's bound to be douches. It's like saying you ran into a bunch of a-holes in NYC. Yeah no kidding there's 8 million people there. It's inevitible with the growth the area has seen and the explosion of every Steve and Jenny buying a rope. However I have met more nice people than jerks. |

It has been a while since I climbed in what we used to call "the canyon". I don't know who thought of "BoCan"; fitting as it is I just hate the name. Up until a few years ago it was easy to find an uncrowded crag; sport park and happy hour were the two really crowded places, but people were generally friendly. Climbing has become almost too popular. Last time I went cragging it was a total cluster of incompetent rope handling with the amount of people and lines for any of the warm up routes. Some parties just set up a TR and leave it there all day as some sort of claimed property. We used to always offer a ride on a TR if some other group looked like they wanted a turn, or would offer to pull the rope if someone wanted to lead it. In turn people would share their routes also. I saw almost none of that last time I went to 'the canyon'. People just stick with their little clicks... |

Steve and Jenny are douche bags; next time you see them at BoCan do everyone a favor and sneak around and trundle their asses. |

Tevis Blom wrote:Some parties just set up a TR and leave it there all day as some sort of claimed property.Haha yup. I had to toss down some dudes rope so I could rap as their rope bogarting the mussy hooks. They lowered and then walked away for like an hour to climb other things. But like you said it's about popularity. I've seen this dumb stuff all over. The only thing to do is climb harder and farther. |

I'm in Boulder Cayon a lot, as well as Eldo. I rarely run into ass holes. In Boulder Canyon I mostly run into newer climbers who are a little intimidated by the whole process. Try breaking the ice with niceness, usually helps. Actually in the 2 1/2 years that I have been back in Boulder I have yet to have a run in with a dick head. |

Randy W. wrote:3 pages of boulderites defending boulder against an overwhelming majority of folks that agree w. me. Again to all accusing my of being the ass. I have no problem with what goes on up there, just wanted a local opinion. I won't bother you if I'm there, and I probably won't visit on a weekend. With that said... get the f--k over yourselves, Boulder. Realize the boulder 'tude is well known and try to change it.Someone just proved you can't count or you lie. Your call. BTW - I don't live in Boulder. |

Randy- the "Gortex Vortex" is what it is... if ya don't like it stay away (or as someone upthread mentioned go explore the lesser known Eldo stuff.) |
