Moving to Tucson at the last minute

Lady and I are moving to Tucson in 10 days (just found out yesterday), and looking for some details on where to live. She’ll be working in Sierra Vista, however was looking for some input on good parts of town to live in (SV or other). Certainly would love nice neighborhoods, good food, and very critically access to climbing, but with grad school around the corner, not looking to spend a fortune on rent. Ridiculously psyched to have the stronghold and lemmon as local crags, however no clue on where to live in this big city. Any input from the SoAz climbers would be awesome (plus anyone looking for partners since I may be funemployed for a bit).

I will say that my girlfriend used to live around the campbell/grant intersection in Tucson and I loved that area. Everything was in walking distance and the neighbors were all really awesome. There was an art store, music shop (instruments type), 3 or 4 awesome coffee shops (not SB's), a Walgreens, bookstore, grocery store and like 10 really awesome places to eat all within walking distance (like 15 minutes or less).

If I were to move up there, I think I'd be looking around that area.

We live down in Sierra Vista and I love it here. Minutes from Bisbee, the Stronghold and still only about an hour from Mt. Lemmon. The weather is always about 10 degrees cooler here than in Tucson (but don't tell the Tucson folks that, we're trying to keep it a secret). The Huachuca Mtns are green year round, five life zones overlap in the Huachucas (amazing hiking) and it's a small town so no interstate or really big industry down here.

randomly enough my best friend just moved last minute from Tucson back to Denver (job transfer) and his house is available for rent. I can get you an address...I think he was up closer to the hills but it wasn't bad to get around. Best of luck.

Slightly on-topic - is it reasonable to assume that a gym membership isn't necessary? Would love to have after-work climbing sessions close to year-round if possible.

Shout if you have any questions, I have lived in every part of Tucson at some point. Ventana Canyon, South Tucson, NW, Central and my actual favorite, Bario Hollywood (I'm not suggesting this for you). If she has to commute to SV I'm thinking you want to be fairly far SE but if that isn't the case you have a lot of options in this town depending on your lifestyle, ages and whether or not you have kids. I moved here from Milwaukee and have pretty honestly never been all that sketched out in Tucson though there are some pockets I would want to avoid, mainly south of 22nd and west of Oracle to I-10 from about Wetmore south.
