Will Alex Honnold be the first Free Soloist to die on film?

At some point, I bet he solos the Bachar/Yerian. Not that hard of a route but would be spicy without a rope for sure!

Not that hard of a route, Hank? Okay, you and me, I'll belay, you lead! I'll even make you a cup of coffee before the route!

Surprise-o-meter registers zero.

Deal Mark!! I'd run another lap on that route with you for sure. The problem with the BY is you don't fall because it's so hard, those knobs just love to break off which would be the real challenge for Alex I think. Alex onsight soloed that Fiesta de los Bicepes-11d at Riglos the week after I did that thing a few months ago. 700' of CRAZY overhung cobbles that totally look like they're going to blow. By the by, I like Kona Blend.

EDIT- I don't think Alex is going to die soloing, on film or not.

Hank, okay, so, WHEN! I'm all over this!

BTW, Alex won't die soloing, he's too smart for that. His ego is not wrapped up in soloing, it's not a badge of who he is, he does it, he enjoys it, but he understands it.

Statistical probability is high.

Didn't Mark Foo die at Mavericks in California? Something about being pinned or trapped on the reef? Maybe that was a different guy, but similar point.

Indeed it was Mark Foo, damn shame as well. He was a great surfer. Do you think Alex Honnold will ever make a snuff film.

IMO this is a disgusting thread. Next thing people will be placing odds and layin down their bets. Just gross

I think it is bad juju to even bring up such a subject about Alex.

I agree with these guys.

Really man, have some respect. You don't mean "all due respect" that's a bunch of sh!t dude. Totally disturbing.

So your position is that we shouldn't discuss the fact that Honnold (or any soloist) might die doing what he does? Why should that be a taboo topic? How is that gross at all? This thread will have no bearing on whether Honnold dies or not. Just because the topic of death makes you uncomfortable does not mean it should be avoided, in my opinion the very opposite is true.

That is not my position at all. I could have a discussion about free soloing all day long as I have lots of experience with it and have been contemplating these values for thirty years or more. The topic of death does not make me uncomfortable. Why would you assume that?

My issue is with the OP's complete disrespect for a specific individual while claiming "all due respect". I found it to be rude. Perhaps the title could have been "Free Soloing for the Camera?" or something more general.

I re-read the OP and I just don't see how it is disrespectful. I suppose respect, or lack thereof, is hard to quantify.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
