What is wrong with you guys up there. I unfortunately decided to "check out" boulder canyon recently, and I'm not impressed. Yeah, maybe there is some good rock out there, but WTF is with the residents of Boulder? Dudes show up at the crags like they own them, drop ropes on people trying to lead from the ground up. Sneak around trying to cut in line to get on routes. If you needed to climb so damn bad, why didn't you go somewhere that isn't a zoo. And why do people go out do deal with this zoo when there is so much better rock within pissing distance of that canyon?!

That said. I even know it's a zoo, hence why I never climb there. So why do you folks think it isn't going to be a zoo? It's like park meadows mall up in that canyon!

Did you check everyone's ID and confirm their address?? People come from all over to climb there.

I'm not saying you're wrong, but I've had all that same crap happen to me in other climbing areas. It's a general piss poor climber mentality.

There are plenty of douchers in Boulder, but don't be suprised if some of those folks were from anywhere else.

Sounds like somebody had a bad day. Sure, Bocan is crowded (ever been to the gunks?), there's dogs and crap everywhere, Yadda yadda.

Chill out man. We're all in this together. Hows about trying to talk to the folks that are jamming your scene at the crag. Heck, you may end-up co-existing, or maybe even gaining a new friend. Imagine...

I could write a list of complaints on Bocan longer than my leg, but what's the point? I count myself lucky to have it as my back-yard.

See ya on the rock!

You really need to be specific about what crag you visited. I'm leaning towards either the Sport Park or Happy Hour Crag. Amirite? Come on, do it right and really spill the details.

IT'S IMPORTANT!

And I wanted to say that all of you people at Highwire last Saturday avoiding the heat somehow by not climbing any of the routes we wanted to do are alright in my book. By the time we wised up and went over to River Wall we were hit by sun sleepiness and had to take a nap. Uhhhhh. A fitful nap, but relaxing none the less.

I love boulder canyon, so do us the favor of not coming back if you had such a bad expierence. And just a heads up if you are a weekend climber EVERYWERE in colorado is a crowded shitshow so accept it or stop climbing. Come back to bocan on a weekday hit the right crags and you will have it all to yourself. Try to lighten up and make friends with everyone there, the crag doesnt feel so crowded when you know all the other climbers there and are psyched for each other. yours truly a bocan local

Yeah, your all right. A couple of AH's can really sully the experience I guess. I'm not stranger to crowds, but it seems excessive.

I'd like to state, this was not a complaint, but a serious question. I wasn't pissed off, I just observed what I see as a total shit show and wonder how you guys keep going back for more when you could just head a little north west (estes park valley) and climb with less crazyness. Or is it that you like the crazyness.

I must admit, there are a lot of good looking people out climbing, maybe that is why you deal with it.

Randy- what crag were you at? I'm going to guess The Sport Park? Avalon?

And on a related note, yes, Boulder Canyon is Terrible. If you want to have a good time and not catch a case of douche-itis, then i suggest you climb elsewhere.

Since i'm already a douche i'll risk it in up in Bocan, hopefully without having to snake your route from you.

Because I can be walking to the crag 15 minutes after I get out of work during the weekdays.

I'm still not reading where Randy names the crag. Come on. Out with it already.

So the dickish attitude is a local thing? I understand, I'd be a dick too if douche nugs from everywhere were coming to my crag and being dicks too. I prefer to have some peace and solitude, and won't go back on a weekend again. I must admit, I did go up there during the week and it was nice.

For those wondering. This hasn't happened only once. This has happened at the following which isn't a suprise I guess.

- Rivera
- Bihedral
- Avalon
- Watermark
- Happy Hour
- Almost saw a texan try to die at Boulderado while everyone seemed to care less.
- The dome
- I avoided the sport park for reasons already mentioned

Oh yeah that's a list of the most common crags. The reality is that the easy access crags with lots of moderates will be filled with every Steve and Jenny with a brand new REI rope. It's either get off the beaten path and climb harder or deal with it. Sure it sucks but comes with the territory. It's not necessarily where people are from.

Any moderate crag will bring out the d-nuggets in force and I rarely get a day of climbing in without watching someone trying to kill themselves.

With all the new tight bolting, and the new guidebook, and the growth of the sport particularly in Boulder, BoCan became worse by an order of magnitude in the past 3-5 years.

Weekdays only, now. The trad crags are still tolerable.

Omigod, a post entitled "Boulder"! That virtually guarantees that the thread will go on for at least five pages. The only remaining question is on what page the posts of semi-clad women climbers will begin to show up.

My guess is that you'd get the same attitude from Table Mountain, High Wire and places where beginners frequent.

Texans are constantly trying to die all over Colorado- not just BoCan.... you grow numb to it.

Go to areas with minimal under 5.10 sport routes or a longer/more difficult approach and the crowds thin significantly. Sure, if you're 5 minutes from the road 10 minutes from the city on a sunny Sunday in a crag with half a dozen 5.6-5.9 well bolted routes that can be set up on TR, you're going to run into the crowds.

So why do you folks think it isn't going to be a zoo?

By removing the fluff from your post you can see that it is quite absurd.

I don't know what kind of name calling is appropriate and what isn't, but I'd wager that certain monikers are more befitting a person who lacks the social skills to talk to the climbers around them and instead posts rants on the internet.

And with respect to details - that Texan you said fell at the Boulderado? Doesn't that make you question the possibility that you were not dealing with locals in the first place?

For my own part, I've climbed here for many many years including almost every route at every crag you have listed. But I have not frequently encountered the situations of "cutting in line" or dropping ropes on leaders. Sure, it happens, but how is it that you are encountering it every time you are around? I don't want to get into the business of victim-blaming, but it does seem strange to me. Maybe you are just exaggerating the frequency and prevalence of such a thing? Or maybe you are putting on an attitude that people try to avoid and end up in awkward situations with you due to non-communication? I raise the latter because it seems to fit with the pathology of internet rants about how lousy all people are...

Maybe it is providence and it's just not your place to be. I promise if you don't ever come back, it will NOT happen to you here again. You don't seem to like the place anyway, and there will also be smaller crowds at the crags if you are not there.
Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
