watch for rattlers - top of first pitch of western grebe (black peeler) just to the left of "hard mantle start" to second pitch, my partner almost cammed a rattler while setting an anchor in the horizontal crack at the base of that second pitch - pretty good sized one - more afraid of us than we were of it - but in sort of a suprising place

Gez there are definitely a few of those around LCC. I saw a very good sized unknown tan snake around four feet long, with yellow stripes around his body. He was about as wide around as a silver dollar. Can anyone identify this guy? I was on the trail just above the LCC park and ride lot about a week ago.

i am guessing a "gopher" snake. They are the only non-venomous i can think of that big around there.

Watch out for this guy! I saw him right where I saw the other snake I posted about above.

Storm Mountain picnic area rattlesnake

From the evening of 25 June. Just below the start of Layback Crack in BCC. Never rattled. Almost stepped on it...

^Gez the snake stoke keeps coming from everywhere I have been climbing lately. Anyone ever seen any rattlers up at Alta? I have heard some folks say that they have seen them up there, but I find it hard to believe...

I believe it Ty. I've seen rattlers up in the Lone Peak Cirque so it's completely possible for them to be in Alta.

Greg's right. I've seen a rattler at almost 11,000 on sunrise peak

Read an article on High Altitude rattle snakes last year. There has been an influx of these snakes throughout the last 10 years. Next they will be on Broadway.

I saw a couple rattlers near the West Slabs topout earlier this year, which is roughly comparable in elevation to the base of Alta.

From what I have heard, the top of the West Slabs are like a huge rattlesnake den.
