Heading west!! We are flying into Sacramento and arriving around midnight on a Thursday night. As we're cheap/broke climbers, we're looking to not get a hotel, but head toward Tuolomne right away and find a free/cheap place to catch a few zzz's somewhere along the way. Suggestions?

There is abundant USFS land just before the entrance to Yosemite along the 120. Alternatively, if you take 108, there is USFS land before entering the park from the East Side as well.

Just take a logging or fire road off of the main road outside the park and pitch your tent. I've never had any problems with bears but definitely be mindful of them

Drive up 120 and a few miles before the entrance there is a hairpin left turn (with a sign that says (Elevation 9000 ft), you can park on the left side of the road, hike across and camp in an abandoned campground. There will be other climbers here.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
