So you are comparing ClimbX's MSRP with the sale price of a GriGri??? Seems reasonable to compare two totally different things... Face Palm.

I do agree with everyone else, looks like shit and I would not belay or let anyone belay me with it.

Ah yes. Yet another "new" and "innovative" product from climbX. At least they waited for the patent to expire on this one.

I got a brief email back saying it won't be available for another 2 weeks..not sure how that affects their 'sale' price listed.

My thoughts exactly....I was picturing something similar to a small individual gym autobelay that played out on your own rope. Not the product I was thinking it was......Or even an autolocking/auto belayed grigri styled device. It is neither it seems.

Does anybody sell ClimbX gear other than ClimbX? Not that I know of...meaning that whatever they charge is what you'll have to pay, which is currently at the "special" price of $60. You can find a GriGri for $80 pretty much all the time (eg. right now they're $80 on EMS), and if you're lucky you can find them even cheaper (like I mentioned I paid $60).

My point was that considering it's a knockoff, I don't think it's cheap enough to ever make somebody buy it instead of the real thing, which can be bought for only a little more (or sometimes even the same price). I think it's a completely fair comparison, but if you want to slap your face over it then go right ahead.

Yes other people sell ClimbX.

Their current price is $60 and the product isnt even due out for two weeks, you dont think there is a possibility of that changing down the line? Or going on sale?

You can find the grigri1 on sale for for $60 maybe but not the latest version.

Either way you are comparing the sale price of something that has been out for years to the MSRP of a product that isnt due for a few more weeks. Double face palm.

Either way I am not advocating the use of this POS.

Really, who? (I'm genuinely interested.)

Sure, I've never seen the GriGri2 for $60 yet, but when I bought mine from another EMS sale a year ago I paid $68.36 (just checked my invoice). Not much more than $60.

First of all, EMS has the GriGri 2 for $80 right now...it's only been out for a couple years. Secondly, why does it matter how long the GriGri has been around? The only reason this ClimbX product exists is because the GriGri patent expired and they decided to clone it.

My point, again, since you seem to keep missing it, is that if I needed a belay device right now I could either buy a GriGri2 for $80 or this GriGri1 clone from a shady company for $60. That 25% savings RIGHT NOW is not going to be enough to sway people. Sure, maybe the ClimbX will go on sale, but the GriGri may also benefit from a better sale (and history proves that it has). MSRP is irrelevant if you can find it at a lower price nearly all the time. Search for virtually ANY product on Amazon and tell me how relevant the MSRP is...

You obviously agree that this product is shit and you would never buy it, so I really don't understand why you insist on trying to make me look like an idiot. The only way you'll prove me wrong is to show that the price of the ClimbX product really IS cheap enough to replace the GriGri, and the only way for you to prove that would be to show incredible sales numbers on these devices. I doubt that even you will think that will happen, so...what's your beef, man?

Uhhh whats your beef? You are the one who just wrote a 5 paragraph response.... You seem to be the one getting upset here, I am just pointing out where you are wrong.

"Features an ergonomic handle for smooth belay"

LMAO. That is NOT an ergo handle. That is an enlarged grigri1 handle that someone threw some free form curves on, and over used the fillet tool in CAD.

Overall this makes me think of the problem with counterfeit Petzl products, which is scary considering the numbers on those
Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
