I was wondering if anyone could point me in the direction of the best hikes to do in the grand junction. As part of my road trip in August I'm going to be coming through that way and I think it will be to hot to rock climb so i will probably have to resort to hiking.

Also best secret backcountry camping spots would be favored please!

Everything is going to be frickin HOT in August. My favorite hike out there is the Mee Canyon Alcove. restlesswestjournal.com/tag…

It'll be too hot to hike down low too. Rent a boat from Rimrock in Fruita and float Ruby/Horsethief, or go up high like in the La Sals above Moab.

Head up to Unaweep Canyon.......plenty of climbing and not as hot.

Plent of good shade in the Monument in August. Depending on what kind of summer we have had the sun could be ok in the morning too. Unaweep is a good bet - Good camping on the divide road. Or pay the fee and stay in the Saddlehorn campground it's a totally amazing place. Start early, and hit "Fast Draw" - in the shade till noon, you'll be done by 10. Bring Jugs.

Hike in the morning and be done by noon if it's in the mid 80's or above. Lower Monumnet canyon to the Upper Monument trail head is the prize. Stash bike's at the top and ride back down. You can do Ute canyon the same way but it is more involved.

It's already pretty hot here, I was out at the Dynamite Shacks yesterday morning and by 9:30 I was packing my stuff up because of the heat. If you're used to climbing in the heat its not that bad. Some of the north facing cliffs in Unaweep wont be too bad. Bouldering in Unaweep will be hot. For hiking I would check out the Grand Mesa. It's between 9-11,000 ft and there are a lot of trails out to beautiful lakes. Good fishing if you're into it.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
