Never been, probably showing up this Saturday and feeling the camping may be full as it is the weekend. I suspect Sun nite will not be an issue... any alternate dirtbag camping in the vicinity if the campground is full? Don't need much, basically a place to park the car..

Thx!

phantom spires is pretty sweet and free! its about 15-20 minutes max from the leap just need a car with a little bit of clearance.

The spires is good. Also there are many places to pull off on the side of the road that are secluded from the road. There are many listed "tracts" I believe is the term. I usually pull in to one and just head to the Leap when I wake up. I wish I had better beta for you, it has been almost a year since I have camped out there.

Thanks,

Sounds like right on the same road the other direction from the Strawberry Lodge I will be able to find a place if the camping is good. I don't anticipate Sun/Mon/Tues nites being an issue in the campground.

Stoked to check it out!!!

+1 for camping at Spires, did it about a week ago and loved it. Other than not having the stinky latrine, some bouldering, and the dumpster not much difference from the Leap campground. Also you don't need THAT much clearance, just the know how to drive. I made quick work of that road with my '95 honda accord wagon.

Spires gets pretty full too and is about a 15/20 minute drive from the leap. Not to mention windy and cold usually.

Camp off strawberry track rd or whatever it's called. It's the road just before the Strawberry Lodge. There's tons of campsites up there, they're free, big and well established. Drive up the road, go past the cabins and then start checking all the pullouts for a good spot. There's tons of them and the camping is legal with no stay limits or asshole forrest service checking up on you.
