Hey everyone,
My girlfriend and I are just getting into the sport and have been training at our local climbing wall in Carbondale. We are really excited to get out on some real rock and are hoping that there could be somebody out there that wouldn't mind taking newbs like us on a top rope sesh? We just want to not rush ourselves and end up in a bad situation or worse, hurt... Also just looking to meet climbers in the RFV area. Any other tips are always appreciated. Thanks!

This sounds more like an advertisement for a babysitter...

What do you mean by you've been training?
Do you guys have any gear? (harness, rope)
Do you know how to belay a climber?

So, heres some advice, You and your girlfriend should learn to belay eachother inside first, then search on MP and find a good easy TR route around carbondale and you guys can get out there by yourselves. our heck take a tr class at your local wall or pay a guide.

Geez, Addison, try not to be so harsh. A couple of rookies looking for fun and you come down on them. Classy!

To the OP, good luck - somebody out there will be happy to take you out. You could go to your local crag and check it out and start talking to some of the people there. A "networking" visit.

Seriously, if youve done the gym thing, and dont know anyone to get you outside, then take a course and learn how to properly set up a TR and teach you a few outdoor ethics....is my advice.

Maybe people who also live and climb in Carbondale would be better respondents for this thread.

Freedom of the Hills is a good reference book. This site is notorious for being harsh on new climbers so filter out what you need and don't let some comments discourage you both. The local gym would be the best networking place there are some climbing groups im sure you noticed approach them about climbing outdoors and don't expect much right away. Best of luck and climb safe.

as far as training its been getting wall time and over all conditioning. we belay each other and both are comfortable with that. as of right now i have no rope (open to suggestions on a good starter rope). kinda just got on here to see if there were any valley locals on this site.

Rope? Check the many 4sale items here at MP. Otherwise Justropes.com and gearexpress.com both have good deals most any time. If you're gonna toprope and trad, go for a 10.2 or so for rugged duty and better wear.

Hi TaylorNkailey.

You might try visiting popular bouldering areas. Not only is the training beneficial , but it's a great way to meet potential partners. Worked for me anyway. Good luck!

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
