Beautiful weather this past weekend. Someone must have gotten out. How is the bug situation over at Green's and Owl's?

They are pretty heavy at Green's, especially on the way in and out, a mix of black flies and mosquitoes. I bought a bug jacket or I would have gone insane. Part of the day I was actually able to take the hood off and was fairly bug free up on the wall with a breeze, but I wouldn't bother coming out for a while until they settle down unless you are fully armored. If you do come out and head over to the Alcove, make a lot of noise. I may be up high cleaning.

Owl's is usually worse than Green's for bugs.

So generally speaking, when does it clear up enough to not having to put on full hazmat suit? :)

I think the tradition is they get heavy around Mother's day and start to clear a bit around Father's day (mid/late June) . I highly recommend everybody grab a bug jacket and billed hat and throw it in your pack for insurance though. They are only $15 at REI and save a lot of misery if you get caught in a bug cloud belaying or something. You can even climb in them all right. Just don't forget you have the head net on when you go to eat a bowl of oatmeal or light up!

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
