Red Rocks clean-up

I have mentioned this in the Cape Ann thread a few times already but I feel it needs its own thread. The recently formed (still forming) Cape Ann Climbing Coalition is holding a trail clean-up at Red Rocks in Gloucester on Saturday May 12th (The rain day will be the 13th. Yes, that is mothers day, bring her along!) from 10am- 2pm. There are 2 parking lots on route 133, one on either side of the route 128 overpass. We will meet at the lot closest to the North Shore Mini Storage and then start in with trash bags in hand. Hiltz Disposal has donated a dumpster for the event, which will be set up at the far end of the storage unit. All you really need to bring is a good attitude and a willingness to pick up trash but gloves and bug spray might not be a bad idea either!
After the clean-up there should be plenty of time for an afternoon climb, meeting some new faces or just enjoying a tasty cold beverage after a day of work (if you remember to bring some). Hope to see a good group of you up there!

Oh, and we are having our second meeting tonight, Sunday May 6, down at the Cape Ann Brewery around 7pm. I hope to see a few of you there.

I don't think I can make it but I'll put the word out to staff and customers at Rock Spot Boston.

It seems we may actually get a good turn out for this clean-up. That being said, remember that there is parking on both sides of the 128 overpass. I think I'd actually prefer to fill up the east side lot (by the 128 Northbound onramp) first. I will have a table set up at the trail head from 9am on. Hope to see you all there!

Thanks to everyone who made it out for the clean-up on Saturday. All said and done we had over 35 folks show up to help pick up litter. We went through 40+ trash bags and (over) filled the 6 yard dumpster which was donated by Hiltz disposal in Gloucester. On top of that, the weather was amazing and there was a great bit of climbing after the work was done, including a good tour around the less travelled areas. Doug Millen, one of Gloucester's veteran climbers said he had never seen so many climbers at Oz or Down Under at any one time! All in all, the day was a huge success.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
