Have some vactaion time coming up and plan on heading to red rocks for a few days during early july. Dont have exact dates yet of when i will be there but it will be during the first two weeks. Have plenty of trad gear, ropes, etc. No problem following up 5.10c maybe a bit higher depending on climb and will lead around 5.9. Just need a partner beacause i lost contact with my normal partner out the way.

one of my favorite times of year is the summer in black velvet canyon. the hike in is hot. the climbing is Good still and there is NO ONE there. .

lemme know if you want to hook up, i love that time of year.

Jon O'Brien -Didn't think about how it could be during that time, love red rocks but to much heat would make it miserable. Might still swing through there though if you think in certain spots it is not to bad for the heat.

John Wilder- What other areas more north or even a little farther east into the coutry would you recommend. Hard to find a travel partner for multiple days due to scheduleling so a place a should be able to look up a partner pretty easy.

Having climbed at RedRock year round I can say it's not that bad in summer if you climb in the shade up in the canyons. The hike in and out can be toasty though. I recommend 5am starts in the dark, climbing until noonish and then by the time you can get back to your car and into town that one cold beer will feel like a 6 pack.

+1 to Karsten's post.

Also, if you can't wake up in time for an alpine start, then you can hike in the afternoons, and easily knock out a few to several shaded pitches before the park closes, or just get a late exit permit (for a multi-pitch), and climb until dark ( No late exit permit is needed if you're not parked in the loop) . Wide brimmed hats, sunscreen, and extra fluids will carry you through the hot, sun-exposed hikes in. It's just temporary suffering you'll encounter; once you're on the shaded routes, you'll be fine climbing in the summer in RR, and you'll have RR all to yourselves! : )

Another tip from this local desert rat: Have an ice chest with your favorite beverages waiting for you at your car for the drive out. Ice cold Perrier is my favorite- It's heavenly!

Thanks guys, appreciate the weather info for Red Rocks. I think that if i can survive georgia's hot/hummid environment and having lugged a bunch of gear up mountains inafghanistan during summer ill be alright. So Jon O'Brien, i will be keeping my plans and head out there early July. what i am looking at now is trying to head out on the 2nd or 3rd and then come back home the 7th or eight depending on flights. Thanks Dirty Gri Gri and Karsten for the Info and might be a day Jon won't be able to climb and if yall are free i could use a partner. Pretty much plan on trying to climb the longer trad routes while there because dont get the chance to much here in georgia.

Question.
Any of you guys know Kurt Arend out there. He was my partner i had out there but have lost contact with him. Just wondering cuz hope he's alright.

Think he's still kickin' around somewhere. He's on FB. Saw him not too long ago in LV. His MP handle is Kurt Burt.
