Texas Canyon California.

I wrote this on the Texas Canyon Page and It was Pulled!

Can't believe my OP was pulled! I will write on here every day!

Went to Texas Canyon a few days ago, Have not been there in a long time, I was appalled at what I saw, Glued on rocks, Drilled out pockets, Chiseled out cracks, bolted 3rd class slabs, destroyed vegetation, Bolts that were spray painted after installation rock, Full squeeze jobs next to classic routes, Etc... Do we really need another chiseled and glued Echo type pile..

Texas Canyon was a real nice place with a few good routes, on OK rock, now its becoming a grid bolted sad looking place with the sad scars of man all over it..

Ben C has lost his mind. I am going to talk with the land managers of Rowher Flats, This outrageous UN-respectful destruction of a natural resource must stop.

It is true that it has been grid bolted, an unfortunate occurance. It is also true that bolts have been spray painted. There are no official trails so I can see how you could come up with destroyed vegatation where people walk. I personally have not seen any cracks with any man made marks or chiseled deformation. I have also not seen glued on holes but I don't climb on the "hard" 5.11+ climbs there.

I am apart of the LA Country Trailcrew 4x4 Club. My club took on the responsibility of maintaining one of the 4x4 trails when Rhowler Flatts opened back up. We have monthly cleaning meet ups where we drive our designated trail and clean up beer bottles, litter, and fix signs.

I am also an avid climber and live less than 10 minutes from Texas Canyon. I have witnessed three routes being put up on the bottom of the egg last year. They were done on rappel and Ø1/2" bolts were used. I feel the person who put those routes up was putting them up safely and not defacing the rock.
I have no idea if this is the same person you mention in your original post. Our club talks to the "land managers" as you put it, on a monthly basis. Crying to them will only regulate the area further and potentially have it closed.

Instead of getting angry, please try to talk to those responsible and educate those that climb there. Feel free to email me personally about litter and trash there. My club has the authority to get the gate at the top opened and allow us closer access to clean and haul trash.

Yeah dude, don't go cry to the land owners. You know who you have a problem with, so contact him. Ben is always on here and he's contacted me before so he is easy to get ahold of. He seams like a cool guy. He's replaced a bunch of sketchy bolts and anchors there too. So even if he's done some stuff to piss you off he's also done some good. I've never seen anything glued or chiseled there.
