Boulder rescuers free climber from under 1,800-pound boulder on Flagstaff Mountain
Does anyone have anymore information on this? Was he working on a problem or just climbing around? It would be interesting to see if a well known boulder just moved. |
So if he was trapped would that really make him a "free" climber? Or would it be a trapped climber goes free? |

Ha! Yes, the Daily Camera although being in a very climbing-centric town, doesn't seem to be good with the climbing lingo. |
They assigned the wrong writer. |

hmmm...wonder where that is near. Anyone recognize that boulder? |
The rescue teams were staging out of the parking lot at the turnoff to the amphitheater and heading north of the road. I think the gate was still closed, but I imagine search and rescue could have opened it if necessary. I'm not sure what bouldering is 1/2 mile from that parking lot. |
So, lets see it. Who else boulders with a helmet on? |
rescuers provide a helmet for the extrication, and sometimes a martini. |
Yes, SAR will usually, if not always, provide a helmet. Seriously!? That's your criticism? |
Wow, that is a big rock to fall. The chap is seriously lucky this didn't land on him any worse than that. |
