Saw this video the other day, and I'm not really sure what to think of it. Is he free soloing? rope soloing? toproping? Why is he jumping so high on the approach and destroying rocks? Maybe I'm just a noob, and I need to start climbing like a real master.

We just fried or 'grilled' Bear in a lengthy post a few days ago here at MP on this awful video. Check it out.
