hey guys, was talking to some of my climbing and skiing partners and we're thinking about looking into some more information on this route for a ski tour sometime soon, anyway, im wondering if anyone knew anything about any good books on the route.

We are just using the standard guide book. Did you find any info online? We are doing the classic, but the amount of rope required seems to be different everywhere we look. Did you find out if you can do it with 2 30m? or must you have the twin 40m+? Just wondering. Good luck!

Are you asking the Verbier Haute Route or the original? I've never done the routes, but Verbier is my dream list. My old research shows you can do 2 x 30M ropes, people also indicated that you can bypass the rappel by boot packed around it.

Thanks so much! We are doing the original route, and we'll be leaving next week so I'll post a report. So far I've found photo's of people skiing it, and talked with people who booted it. That being said we did talk to a guide who just returned who said you needed the whole 35 meters this season, so we will be bring it. I'll let you know how it goes. Ill check out all the great info you posted. Thanks!

I did it it years ago started in Chamonix. Super fun. We had one short rope but never used it. In a few sections it was a bit scetchy doing jump turns with a heavy pack looking at the crevasses below. But over all the conditions were suitable for going rope less. I reckon on a really low snow year some of the chutes would be challenging to get down.
Nonetheless it is super fun with great terrain for making some fun turns, and the scenery is outstanding!!!

Def post up your report! My buddy is out in Germany in Med school and we've spoke about doing the Haute...Maybe next season I'll have to make the time to get out there and get it done. Good luck, be safe, and have FUN!

Thanks everyone for the great info. I learned a lot. We didn't complete the route because of a massive storm the size of Portugal, but we did get some good sections in. Here is the write up if your interested in reading it:
