Good area in Idaho/Utah for an "outdoor survival" trip

hey guys,

Me and a couple buddies have been wanting to take an outdoor suvival type of trip and this summer it seems that were finally going to make it happen. We will be in rigby Idaho on June 9th and want to plan a trip somewhere between there and Provo Utah (a friend is meeting us from Provo)

Basically we are looking for a place with a nice stream we can fish and some area to camp. We arent looking for any typical tourist destination, but I am sure that if you all know an amazing place you probably do not want to share it as you are wanting to keep it preserved.

If you all know of a good area somewhere in the vicinity of where I mentioned please message me or throw it up on the boards!!

We want to have a good/safe time, but also be able to have a beautiful and amazing camping experience! (Up in the mountains would be awesome)

Go up into the Uintas... hike a ways in to any of the innumerable lakes. You'll be surviving in no time.

Triangulate yourselves between Lost Creek Reservoir, Causey Reservoir (start hiking here), and Woodruff, Utah. Access to Causey Res. would be east of Ogden up the South Fork of the Ogden River. Much of this area is managed by Deseret Land and Livestock, is quite nice, and will undoubtedly lack tourists. Have fun, be careful, and let us know how it went.

The Uintas look amazing, but they are 7 or so hours from Rigby Idaho which would cut our trip shorter, but we may be able to make it work..

Woodruff Utah is a bit better as far as driving would go.. only a couple hours from Rigby.

We could definitely make either of these suggestions work for us.

Any other places we could look at?

Well... we are planning on Maybe Tuesday-Friday or something like that. It wont be a real survival adventure per-se, but will still be just us and the wilderness...... And cliff bars obviously ;)

Okay so looking at google maps... When you say the uinta mountains it directs me to ashley national forest, but a couple hours west of that (right near provo) is the uinta national forest.

How will the uinta national forest be? Keep in mind we want it to obviously be legal to camp there, not filled with a ton of tourists, and a sometype of stream/lake to catch some fish. May be difficult to find the perfect area, but that is why I come to you guys!

Here is what we are brainstorming for our trip.

Buddy "A" will drive from Yuma, AZ and his destination is Rigby Idaho.
Budddy "B" Lives in Provo and is probably willing to drive a couple hours
I will be flying from Phx and my final destination is Rigby Idaho.

I can fly into provo and buddy A will have to drive through provo either way to head up to Rigby so it seems best to have something right around that area to do our mini adventure.

In any case, google the Mirror Lake highway in the Uintahs - anywhere is going to be fine. Amethyst Lake area is a favorite for what you are looking for.

Cause I am not sure what an "outdoor survival" trip is.... you mean like camping??? Or are you guys going into the woods with just a knife? Otherwise it just sounds like camping.

Can't fly into Provo. I mean at least for cheap on a major carrier. I don't know where Rigby is... but you're best is probably the Uintas or farther south deep in Escalante or greater Canyonlands... climbing is included!

The uintas would be too easy for a survival trip. Snow to melt for water, not to mention PLENTY of water around, and if you have even the crummiest of fishing poles you're not going to go hungry.

Instead, rent a jetboat and get dumped off somewhere in the maze in canyonlands. Then, find your way out.

For an even more challenging adventure, parachute in to the midst of the salt flats. Now THAT would be survival!

Really though, like everyone's said, pick a place off of Mirror Lake highway. Park your car and hike to it. Bam - wilderness adventure. Be forewarned, june 6th is gonna be chilly at night and possibly snowy (although with the 88 degree weather we're having, snow is unlikely).
