I was a teenager in KY in 1977, and I think this article was the first I became aware of Devils Lake. The photos and the Slinger character left a vivid impression on me!

Dave Slinger was my Uncle and I was very fortunate to have been able to spend some time in the mid to late 70's climbing with him at his cottage in Devils Lake, WI as well as skiing with him at his winter home in Snowmass, CO. Dave was an outstanding rock climber and skiier, and worked on climbing techniques with me, but once I got 20' off of the ground I was DONE!! Although he has been gone for close to 20 years I think of him often remembering the big smile when he completed a climb or shussed down a mountain. I also remember Dave giving me the magazine that this article was in and him saying "do you think this is any good? " I still have the article......
