Anyone interested in bouldering on this monolith?

First Ascent Oppurtunity

Looks like a fudge stick.

Well, Martian gravity is 38% of earth's, does that mean that you should boulder 3 times higher?

Yeah, how would that effect the rating? I think this should be cleared up before we spend billions heading over there.

Nah, ratings should be the same:

"yeah honey, I climb 5.21 on mars."

I think the approach is class 7, so any free or aid ratings seem pretty irrelevant to me.

Thanks for posting.

I keep trying to persuade my colleagues here at JPL to have two rovers per mission; one to do the real science and one lightweight expendable to visit the big mountains and just take scenery shots, heck or evan a webcam station somewhere spectacular.

How would one go about naming the 'monolith'?

The JPLers like to think up names, but if you have something interesting I could probably send it to one of the MRO mission people.

To keep it in the theme of climbing- I pronounce thee "Fudge Stick" because it looks like a Popsicle stick in a fudge pile. Man I hope this gets picked, so I can be tied to the astrological Gods! Mars, Neptune, fudge stick, Pluto!

I like fudge stick. or Fudge stick 2001.

at any rate, I wonder how hard it would be to climb in a space suit.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
