kendra,
i know it's easiest if you can find a local willing to make the trip but if not, i'll second the train.
it's a quick and scenic ride.
take the 14 or 1 metro to Gare de Lyon to catch the train to font.
there's a bus from the train station (marked "A", or "Chateau") that drops you at the gates to the palace.
you can check the bus schedule for the return to the train station once you get off (the stop for the return trip is across the street and left).
from there consult your guidebook.

D.Arnold,
definitely train slopers!
i used a piece of 6" diameter pvc pipe hanging horizontally from rope for hangs and pullups.
car is a bonus, the area is pretty spread out.
oh and yes train from paris to font, rent the car there.

try to check out the chateau, it's beautiful and has an interesting history.
audio tours are available in english.

Kendra:
I found that the best option besides renting a car is to rent a bike. There is a bicycle shop a couple of blocks from chatuea de fountainebleau that will rent them for the day. The tourist office across the street from the palace can tell you how to find the store. Since you dont have a pad i would suggest that you go to the bas cuvier boulder field, only about a twenty min bike ride from the palace. it seemed to be the most popular and largest feild that we went to. there you should have no problem jumping on some problems with others that have pads, everybody was generally nice and hospitable. we also met two very nice americans that lived outside of fountainebleau that might be willing to show you around, you can face book them and ask, brent wanner and rachel hodas. hope this is somewhat helpful, if you have any other questions just post and i will help if possible.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.

Bouldering
