Look out! The dry weather is going to make it a heavy tick year.
Spend 3 hours at LCC and got two ticks

Really? Hot and dry produces MORE ticks? I dont think so...

I think most animals like water so I am not sure why you think dry weather would increase the tick population.

Ticks in Red Rocks? Really? I didn't think there were ticks in the desert.

In my area, wetter weather makes for more ticks.

Tick have been out for weeks in LCC. Soon as it gets hot, they'll be disappearin'...

Ticks are out in the East too. Got a tick a few days ago in VT. This is really early for them to be out so far north; must be the warm weather.

Season here is typically April to May. In mild winters, I think they come out a tad earlier, like they did this year, in March.

Every year.

Another prime reason you all should just stay indoors. IMO kinda lame to complain about bugs. Pick em off and move on. No need for the drama.

Yes, there are ticks in Red Rock. They love the scrub oak. And since you have to frequently bushwhack through that stuff, tick bites are common. I found a tick on me in Red Rock last week also.

Might be even more lame to complain about people complaining...

But, these are ticks we're talking about. They are the spawn of satan.

There is plenty of drama when they are discovered...

Shingo?

I heard Shingo loves them so much he invites them home and lets them sleep on his couch.

Is there Lyme in Nevada? I was climbing in Red Rocks for 2 weeks in Feb, and I haven't felt well since I got back...maybe need to bring this up with the doctor.

the tick

He's coming and he's pissed.

Edit: In 2009, Utah had 6 confirmed cases of Lyme disease and Nevada had 10. So not really a threat (Pennsylvania had 5000 cases).

Yes, there are many ticks here! I didn't get any climbing with permethrin sprayed on my clothes. I did get one in the backyard though...

I got what I determined to be Ehrlichiosis from a tick in 2007 (The doctors never could give me a straight answer). Here's some good info on it: ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmedheal…

My temp peaked at 106 and I couldn't stand or walk when I finally went to the ER. I went to urgent care the day before and they said I had the flu and was dehydrated. WRONG! I got a great spinal tap in the ER too. Thankfully, antibiotics cleared it up but I was in the hospital for 5 days.

Do not take ticks lightly! I always scrub myself down in the shower immediately after being out and change clothes. Wash the clothes but watch out cause the little fuckers and survive through it!

Kurt,

You would know if you wsre bitten by a tick. They stay latched onto you and form a red welt. I've also heard that they have to be burrowed in you some minimum amount of time to transmit Lyme disease.
Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
