Thief in Eldo?

This past Sunday (3/11/12), while up high and probably out-of-site from the ground, my backpack was taken from the base of Bastille Crack approximately between 5:00-6:00pm. Inside the BD Splitter 38 was my prescription glasses, cell phone, and about a dozen draws. I suspect that either a hiker thought it was left behind and turned it in somewhere, or some human piece of garbage took off with it. In either case if anyone has any information, please send me a PM.

There was definitely a problem with kids taking packs from the base of the Bastille & Wind Tower a year or two ago. I don't know if they ever caught anybody.

I hope you get your stuff back.

Uh, yeah. It wasn't that guy in the photo. He lives in another state now.

The fact is, you cannot leave things unattended in Eldo along the road or at Wind Tower or anywhere else for that matter along a trail without the possibilty of some park visitor/thief taking it. Unfortunately, too many klefties know about the easy pickings at Eldo and come here to get base booty.

So don't leave your wallet and keys in your pack.

Two posts today about expensive, unattended items disappearing in a high-use area. Why am I not surprised? Lock your stuff up guys, or hide it well. Lotta PoS people in this world, gotta watch your back. Believing/trusting in 'karma' has not and never will deter theft. Ever.

Sorry you got robbed dude. Sucks to learn things the hard way.

It was my first time at Eldo. In the future, I'll definitely be more cautious about leaving stuff behind, especially since the approaches are so short. Hopefully karma catches up to the douche bag thief.

Hundreds of climbers leave belongings at the base of the Bastille every year. A couple packs/year are probably ganked. I don't know what your neighborhood is like, but Eldo isn't exactly filled with POS people from whom you have to constantly watch your back. It's reasonable to think you can leave your pack/cell phone/glasses on the road and have it be there a couple hours later.

I've learned that lesson too many times, sad that you can't trust people. Didn't happen in Eldo to me, but I never leave stuff at the base of the Bastille or any accessible crag. I've had someone run off with a pack full of climbing gear and other important things at an obscure and remote crag in Guatemala (chased the dude down and tackled him... exciting!), a group of dudes found and tried to steal some well-hidden (obviously not well enough) mountain bikes left near a trail head in Durango while we were away from them for a few minutes, lucky the dude I was with was an ex-marine sniper badass mofo and scared the shit out of the douches so they didn't try anything else. You just can't trust your shit anywhere no matter how remote it is or what kind of people frequent the area. And I used to be super trusting of people in general, but that's been ruined to some extent. Sorry that happened to you man, that really sucks.
