Isn't that only true if the cord is truly static such as steel cable? I think a 3 foot fall onto 3 feet of PMI pit rope does generate greater forces than a 3 foot fall onto 6 foot of pit rope because the rope does stretch.

Technically that's true, but the difference becomes very small with static materials.

That may be so. I think that he at least said that the difficulty, in terms of climbing grade, was at least 5.10? So my question remains, what do you need beyond sheer upper body strength? I don't know, it just seems neither appealing nor technically demanding to me in any way. If I am missing something because of my ignorance, please enlighten me.

its actually a pretty fun mellow rest day kinda activity, the sheer amount of rock your exposed to on ours would take quite some time to experience using ropes.

we actually use ours a lot to access certain climbs that are unreachable from the ground(the land at the base of the rock is on private property, but the fin of rock itself is on ours.)
they're fun, as long as you dont go into it with an elitist rock climber, its actually a great experience. perfect for taking your non-girlfriend climber out to see if she'd even like being out on the rocks(get that one alot), or getting super exposed on super simple terrain....like ladder rungs.

so they have their uses, the first time i did one i went into it with the wrong attitude, but ended up having a great time, i mean, where else can you do shit like this?!
