Any climbers here live in Great Falls. Anybody know of anyone who has lived there. I have recently gotten accepted to school there but am having trouble imagining actually living there, as I don't think there is any climbing around. Greatly appreciate it if there is info on the area. Thanks

I live in west glacier in the summer and I would think great falls would be the closest city to black leaf. The place is amazing six pitch limestone sport climbing. Only downfall being the season seems to be maybe three months if you are lucky. Weird hurricane force winds there. I would imagine that the rocky mountain front also has at the very least massive potential for more routes with all the rock there. Hell its montana there could already be hundreds of unpublished routes there already. As far as easy mid week climbing in the area......think you might be out of luck, seems to be pretty prairie like to me

Lived in GF for 7 years. Loved Montana, but GF not so much. Plan on a two-hour drive to get to any established climbing. Blackleaf is awesome, and there are a few other published routes on the front. Lots of stuff around Helena...check out Central Montana Rock for a good guidebook.

I also realize that living in west glacier for the summer doesn't even remotely qualify me as a great falls local, so don't get disheartened on account of me. One more plug for blackleaf though. Amazing setting with really cool routes that seem to have better pitches on them the higher you go. Bodhisitavva is excellent.

Thanks for the responses, I have heard of Black leaf and am trying to get there whether or not i move to GF. I think living in a praire town might actually kill me, but who knows.

Born and raised just outside of Great Falls -- towards Blackleaf. Unfortunately, I didn't learn about climbing until I moved to South Carolina. Weird.

I'll be back in Great Falls in a month for 2 weeks visiting family -- hoping to checkout BL if the weather doesn't suck.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
