it has been about 7 years since my Metolius cams have been used. DO I need to re-sling them? I have bought new slings and runners and 2 new ropes. I wonder about my quick draw and cam slings though. Nobody can seem to give me a straight answer.

At some point, yes. Metolius will do it for you for a nominal fee. Contact them.

I think most manufacturers recommend replacing fabric (cam slings, runners and the "dogbones" on quickdrawa) after about five years, even if they've had no use, falls or abuse. They might last longer and I'm sure the manufacturers are being conservative, but why risk it?

Metolius does a good job for a few bucks a cam.

Runout Customs did an excellent job on my cams Sevice was quick and affordable with many options. Luke is in Moab (sells big wall gear on MP often)and I think will ship.

I changed mine last year. At the time they were about 15 years old and was climbing and falling on them!!!! I take about as good a care of them as i can. I know dumb waiting that long and I'm not condoning it. I do believe it is 5 years though and again as Frank PS stated, "Why risk it?"

Hey Mark,
I sent my cams to Metolius last summer. They did an awesome job re-slinging them for me, and they cleaned and lubed all my cams. They will also take a look at them and assess their condition. Really worth it, it was pretty cheap, I think around 30-35 bucks for about 7 cams. That also included one cam with trigger wire replacement.

Just got my TCU's back from Metolius, and they did a really great job on them the cams look new, they clean and polish them and color matched the new slings, couldn't be more pleased. I'm fairly certain they will only do this service on their own products.

Thanks everyone. I will box up my cams and get them sent out. They have many trips to the RED and the NEW planned for this summer, and they need to be ready

send them back to metolius. I just had mine done there and at BD. BD took over a month, Metolius was much faster and they cleaned the old cams to look brand new. I think they glass bead them or something because my marking tape was still on, but the metal glimmered compared to the dull old way they were. Plus they are cheaper than most companies. I believe it was only $3 per for the awesome cleaning job, plus the dynema/nylon slings that are on the newer mastercams were put on all my old nylon slung cams.

Like everyone says, Metolius does a truly outstanding job. Mine came back quickly, they were so clean they looked new, and Metolius included a free bottle of cam lube that I've been using on all my cams.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
