Moore's Sunday 2/26 from Chapel Hill

Anyone in the Chapel Hill area want to go to Moore's with me on Sunday? Looks like it's going to be a nice, chilly day. I'd like to get some moderate/easy trad mileage, maybe try a .10 or two if I'm feeling frisky. I can drive if you chip in on gas and are not going to get me killed while climbing. Have a rack, 60m rope. I climb at the UNC and CH community center gyms pretty frequently, maybe we've met?

let me know,
Gabe

If I recall correctly, you just moved to the area. I'd be really cautious about going to Moore's on a day when the high is in the low 50s. You can usually subtract 10 degrees from the published high temp to account for Moore's being north-facing.

It's probably worth your while to drive the extra distance to Stone. I'll be leaving for Stone from Chapel Hill on Sunday morning to help a friend with his first trad lead on Sunday. I doubt you'd want to pair up with us for a partner since we'll be moving very slowly on Great Arch, but maybe you and whoever you find would be interested in carpooling to save money.

I agree with Scott: with this forecast, I'll be headed to Stone this weekend. The problem with a day like Sunday at Moore's is the low of 28. With any wind (common), it'll feel like its 35 most of the day. The rock you are likely to climb gets no sun and will be freezing cold.

I was there last Saturday with a better forecast and still felt cold most of the day. On the other hand, you'll almost certainly have the place to yourself.

+1 to everything that was just mentioned. Another good rule of thumb is that you don't really want to climb at Moore's unless you are comfortable climbing at the overnight low temperature. Not always true but it's a decent standard.

Depends on who saw you, I guess. If it were most of the normal Moore's Wall riff raff, like me, I'd say that mostly you'd just get a stern internet lecture. But there are definitely a few good ol' Southern boy Moore's regulars that'd probably deliver a beat down.

Yeah...I was there in November on a day with a forecast high in the upper fifties, and totally underestimated it and was cold all day. I only brought one pretty light layer that day, so I thought with some warmer clothes Sunday would be all right. I know it's north facing.

Despite appearances I grew up in Asheville.

Gabe, I'm sure we've met. I also climb regularly at UNC and at the CC. Rope climbing at Moore's this weekend is a little too cold for my taste, but get in touch if you'd like to try climbing somewhere else/some other time. Bouldering at Moore's will probably be pretty good. FYI, there will be Chapel Hill folks at Asheboro on Sunday.

Head to moores and if it's too cold just boulder. You could boulder in the am and then run up to tha ampitheater for the short lived afternoon sun. Raise hell, step And fetch and golden earring, do or dive... Then tr quakerstate. Any day at moores wall is a good day.

Ryan is right. Any day at Moore's is a good day. Spent the day today dodging rainstorms and heavy winds. Wind on a 50 degree day would be very cold. But bouldering there in the 50's is no worries.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
