On Friday I posted about an access issue in AZ that I believe has national concerns. I listed State Senators info in the forums for those states to make it easy for people to contact them. They've all been removed. I would have posted this in an access forum if there was one. I received no notification that they were removed and would like to know why. Public lands that have been set aside for recreation are in jeopardy and this could set a precedent for all public lands in every state.

Right but by posting it just once we would all see it on the thread list. By posting it to every board on the site its the only thing on the thread list.

If you feel the need feel free to bump it once in awhile.

I guess I still don't understand people. Unless it's happening to them they don't give a damn. Once any Federally protected lands are lost it sets a dangerous precedent for all. Including the ones in all other states. I just thought it would be easier to see their Senator's info on their states page. Trying to make it as easy as possible for the few who do care.

your intent is good. just don't post 100 times... this site isn't a can for your spam

You overspammed. We all saw every post you made. You could have made one emphatic thread with all the info and it would have been much more effective. Constructive criticism dude, I'd guess 99% of us are on your side; just don't start throwing overly-emotional "Don't You Care!?!" crap around here. Remember, a ton of us are adults with very serious careers and are used to communicating on very important issues in calm, rational terms. You are coming off as an immature child.

Yes, yes. Everyone understands its important. You are missing the point. People were annoyed because when you posted in 10 different forums, you swamped the "Recent forum post" list so that all anyone could see was 10 different instances of your post. Post it once, and it will show up in the Recent Posts section and everyone WILL see it. And just FYI, your condescension towards all of us who "don't care" is pretty flipping annoying; get off your high horse.

Got it! Thanks for the feedback and enlightening me. Maybe there needs to be an Access Issues forum. Seems like the General Climbing forum might work but I personally would like seeing something like an Access Issues forum. I could have posted there knowing that it would get like to be involved in such things. I get that not everyone does. I've reposted the info in the AZ/NM forum if anyone wants their Senators info.

Great idea, Chris!

Thanks for the heads-up on this. I signed the petition this morning!

An Access Issues forum category is an excellent idea. I'm sure it will be filled with sticky after sticky in no time.

It's not the posting or discussing the topic of Oak Flat, or any other place for climbing that's at issue. It's the 2000 same topic personalityA pissing-crises.

My world isn't going to end on any particular access concern, nor will it end should the popular person not get their own credit for 'saving' a climbing area for us little folk.

I certainly don't read all the forums, but I passed on your idea about an Access Issues forum to Nick & Andy...in case they don't read every post. Thanks!

posting the exact same thing repeatedly in all the forums is spam... it wastes bandwidth and server space and if it gets out of control MP.com will not be able to afford to operate for free...

like i said, intent is good, just don't post it 10 times... once in the proper place will be just as effective

if not more effective because people won't be pissed off that you spamed the whole "What's new" page

Is it REALLY that upsetting to see a post a couple more times than once? Posts that are about something important....

No harm done at all IMO.

If it's an access issue, I don't mind seeing it however many times it takes to get the message across, but I guess not everyone agrees on that. Once you know what the post is about, isn't it VERY simple to not click on the additional links (which each had separate info pertaining to specific regions)?

Oh well. I'm not trying to bring negativity to this, just surprised there was any backlash. Please help if you can. And if your local area is ever undergoing an access issue, I will be there to help you too.

Another issue with multiple threads about the same topic is (aside from the problems previously mentioned) that the discussion isn't centralized.

Rather than going to each forum individually to find the current buzz, I (and I'm sure many-to-most other MP-ers) first look in the "what's new" section.

With that in mind multiple posting doesn't serve to increase exposure and instead fragments the conversation, making it a net hinderance to actually accomplishing your intended goal of rallying a community response.

Great point!

Jesse T-good point about the conversation getting fragmented.

As stated up-thread, his original intent has been put in one thread now in the AZ/NM forum. Hope you all check it out if you have time. Thanks Chris for getting the message out!

kirra wrote: really surprised at this reaction especially from you Mike THIS ISN'T SPAM and this isn't Crap. I suggest the whiners here to reconsider & reflect upon the value of this public climbing area and the fact that Arizona does not have a representative on this committee so this seemed like a logical way for Chris to inform the local constituents to write or call Not everyone views MountainProject the same way. When I want to see what is going on in a particular area, I go to that area via the Forum link at the top of this page menu. It makes perfect sense that Chris listed this in the areas where the constituents for the Senators reside. The Access Fund declared a similar *wake-up-call* -today for everyone I urge everyone to view the bigger picture momentarily and put your spam-whining aside. This hearing on Thursday affects everyone in our community whether you climb in Arizona or not -thank you
Kirra- I was critiquing his methodology, not the message. I know how passionate you are on this issue as well. As I stated in my other post, he was overplaying it thus likely causing a negative reaction from would-be allies. Its all about tactics. I do have my .02 in with Udall btw.
