Looking to pick up some new small cams I have a few c4s but can't decide between smaller c4s and the new totem basics. Also looking at getting some lightweight biners thinking wc astros or dmm phantoms. Any one have any experience with these pieces?

I don't much care for smaller C4s. The 0.5 is pretty good, but I usually rack up C4s from 0.75 and up, and MasterCams 1-4.

The MasterCams are very good, but if I was doing it again it would be a tough call between them and the Totem Basics.

If you're considering Basics vs. C4s from 0.3 to 0.5, I'd get Basics for sure. But the 0.75 C4 is one of my favorite pieces. I'd hesitate to replace that.

Astros and Phantoms are both good, light biners. I've used both and I think I like the handling of the Phantom a little more. If possible, fondle both and see what fits your hand.

FWIW, I ended up with mostly BD OZ and some CAMP Nano 23s instead beacuse I was able to find them much cheaper. But the DMM and WC 'biners are nicer, for sure.

I own a bunch of small cams and love the C4 in smaller sizes (0.3, 0.4) I also like the Master cams. I'll take 4 lobes over 3 in most situations.

Absolutely. I even ditched my red and yellow C3s for the smaller MasterCams. And my TCUs have been relegated to my super-light alpine rack.

Still love the Green and Purple C3, but I haven't tried the smaller Aliens.

I second Auto-X. Camalots smaller than purple are too wide to fit in the weird small cracks common here. The .3 Camalot is a full lobe wider than the comparable Master Cam, and almost twice as wide as the C3. I haven't played with the Totem Basic yet, but the regular Totem is a sweet piece of kit.

I like the Astros, super light, they clip nice and they rack well on my gear loops. They sandwich together nice so I end up with more room on my gear loops which gives me more options on how I rack up. I have the BD OZ's on my C4s as well and they are just, OK. I also second the vote on master cams, I really like mine in the smaller sizes. Totems seem like a good way to go now too, comes down to preference.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
