the southeast facing dihedral is the classic route on the chair.it is the one you can see from the highway. one of erics books has a write-up of our climb..someone should repeat this route. what a BEAUTY.get hold of one of us for details. also, buttes of the cross. best climb i ever did. we had #2. check bolts. totally rotten in 2005 when we were there.there is new first ascent 5 pitch route we are planning to do.totally wild and dirty. we are 68 and 69 years old. not much left to lose, being old people, so why not? will keep you posted.
Me and a buddy are going in there to climb on and around Jacob's Chair. Any way you could send me some more info on your route? It would be very much appreciated.
hey brian, I'm also interested in climbing out by Jacob's Chair, and live locally (monticello), but am having a tough time finding anyone to go out there with me. If you're interested, PM me about your plans and timeline. Maybe we can join forces out there? My profile is pretty accurate if you want to check my credentials...
I might be in that area first/ second week of march. I have wanted to climb jacobs chair for a while but i can not find any beta on it other than one line in the desert rock IV saying it is a 5.10 II let me know if some one would be down to go climb
got beta re j. chair. we did 2nd.overall ascent, new route at the time. i notice several posts showing interest. reach me at goatrat1@hotmail.com. this is written up in eric's parks and recreation areas book, i think it was. note diedrich and calhoun names. well known in the community. we have several other goodies as well, prob. not published anywhere.
Brian Sohn and I are going to be in the Jacob's Chair area around Mar. 19-23. Our tentative plan is to climb the Chair, maybe via a new route, and explore some of the other stuff in the area, especially the climbing in North Wash. We're psyched about FA possibilities. If there's anyone who knows this area pretty well and is willing to show us around, we'd be really appreciative.
