So I'm totally ripping off Wikipedia here, but I was thinking, wouldn't it be nice to have a place where the best documented routes on MountainProject are listed? Sort of like the featured articles of Wikipedia. I for one really enjoy reading quality route descriptions with good pictures. It doesn't really matter whether the route has many ascents, the focus is instead on the quality of the documentation. Users who contribute routes of this quality should get extra points, I guess. Not that anyone really cares about the points as far as I know.

For example, these would fit the bill despite having only 1 ascent:
mountainproject.com/v/north…
mountainproject.com/v/ring-…

By the way, I've seen the 'Featured Route from Your Favorite Areas' thing, and this seems to be based on rating, not quality. Right now it links to a terse post about a 30 foot finger crack in Carver, OR for me.

We vote on the star ratings, so they are an indicator of quality. Of course one punter can submit a route and give it 4 stars, but on the whole the process works out.

I think he means best MP pages, not routes.

I want a section for the best MP posts. Flame fests, trolls, anything mattdavies or Killis Howard has ever said...

We used to have an annual best of rec.climbing. Generally one person would take it upon themselves to cull the wheat from the chaff and post it up as a new thread.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
